Twitter

In what ways did twiter help people in christchurch?
It helped people who were trapped under the rubble tweet for help and get recued, it also is helpihng people find family members who they couldn’t find before hand. And has helped people who havent been accounted for tell the world that they are safe and not to worry.

Quote examples of tweets that show the different uses?
A tweet from America saved two New Zealand sisters from fretting their father had perished in the quake.

Michelle Gourley was at her Kaiapoi when the quake struck and she immediately tried to reach her 70-year-old dad, John, on the phone.

Not able to get through, she jumped into the car to head to Opawa but was stuck in traffic, so called her sister Joanne in Auckland. They decided to call their brother Sean in San Francisco, who used to Twitter to put the call out to see if anyone knew of John’s whereabouts.

Moments later a stranger replied: "Sean I'm near Opawa, what's address."

After being given the address, the stranger went to John’s home and found him alive and well, sitting in his car outside his badly damaged house, and tweeted the find.

How do people use the twitter functions?

Why is twitter good in a crisis? twitter is extremely helpful in a crisis as it eases the load on cellphone networks and is a quick way of letting people now were you are and if you are in need of help which has been proven in the current christchurch earthquake.

Compare it with facebook

Facebook and Twitter actually look like pretty different products and businesses today. Twitter is a broadcast/conversation communication platform, while Facebook is an identity platform with communication and distribution, and financial applications built on top of it. Unless Twitter gives users more Facebook-like control over different parts of their identity, Twitter is going to have a hard time serving those users who are more sensitive to security in addition to those aiming for more visibility.
